Co-Curricular

The aims of Co-curricular opportunities at Walsgrave Academy are:

  • To provide a wide range of experiences and opportunities both within and beyond the school day
  • To develop the ‘whole child’ ready for future pathways
  • To build an awareness of ‘positive mental health’

Delivering of Co-Curricular Opportunities at Walsgrave Academy:

The Inspire Curriculum extends well beyond the 2014 National Curriculum and includes a wide range of activities and opportunities to maximise every moment of the school day.

Our lunchtime provision includes a wide variety of sporting opportunities for all age ranges, access to Thrive activities and the school library to access books.

  • Performances and Productions - At Walsgrave, we ensure we value performance and allowing children to showcase skills. From Nativities in EYFS to end of year productions in Year 6, we ensure children have the opportunity to perform. This is through year group assemblies, trips for the Choir to local homes and hospitals and taking part in joint ventures such as Young Voices.

  • Clubs and competition - As part of our continuing commitment to school sport and the enhancement of ‘the lived daily experience’ of our children, we offer a wide range of clubs. Through feedback from children and parents we have developed a tailored and highly successful bespoke offer that is catered especially for our children. This includes a thriving football team for both boys and girls, Netball matches as well as city wide competitions such as the Virtual games.

  • Forest Schools - At the Walsgrave, we use Forest Schools to help children further develop their confidence, self- esteem and supported risk taking in a safe natural environment. As children become familiar with Forest Schools they take their new-found confidence into the classroom and into other areas of their lives.

  • Progressive Co-Curricular opportunities -We value to strength of giving children progressive opportunites in their school offer, both inside and outside of the classroom. An example of this is our progressive approach to residentials:

Year 3 – Sleep over and film night in the hall
Year 4 – Camp out on the school field
Year 5 – Residential to Conkers
    Year 6 – Trip to Dol-y-Moch
