WALSGRAVE C of E ACADEMY

Christian Values at Walsgrave C of E Academy

At Walsgrave C of E Academy, we aim to help each other to learn through our Christian values of Friendship, Endurance, Thankfulness, Forgiveness, Service and Hope which are central to all aspects of our school life. We are here to give our pupils an excellent education with a rich and inspiring curriculum, at the same time providing nurture and care for their spiritual/emotional, moral, social and cultural wellbeing. We have carefully selected these core six Christian Values to ensure that they underpin our PSHE units and also add a Christian basis for our British Values teaching.

When children leave Walsgrave C of E we want them to be well-rounded, resilient, tolerant of different view-points, and able to cope with the various challenges of life. They will have a firm Christian foundation for their moral values and will be able to apply these to their daily lives. We want all children and grown-ups to flourish during their time at Walsgrave and to be encouraged to live life to full, embracing all the adventures, challenges, celebrations and highs and lows that come their way.

I have come in order that you might have life — life in all its fullness. John 10:10

We want everyone who comes into contact with our school to be encouraged and supported to live life in all its fullness. This does not mean that life will always be easy but that at Walsgrave we offer everyone support to achieve their very best.

Christian Value

Why it is important at Walsgrave

Autumn 1

Friendship

If one falls down, a friend can lift him up.

Ecclesiastes 4:10 (NIV)

God has made us to be in relationship with people and because of this we believe that it is so important to support and celebrate friendship. We know at Walsgrave that if children are happy at school they will learn and having positive friendships plays a big part in this.

Autumn 2

Endurance

We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need

Colossians 1 10-11 (NLT)

After October half term it can feel like a long slog to Christmas. The expectations of what we expect the children to do begins to increase. Teaching children about endurance and to keep on trying even when they find things difficult is very important at this time of year.

Spring 1

Thankfulness

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Psalm 107:1 (NIV)

At the start of the new year we like to encourage everyone to reflect and be thankful for what they have.

Spring 2

Forgiveness

Forgive us the wrongs we have done, as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us.

Matthew 2:12 (GNT)

As we approach Easter it is important to look at the impact that forgiveness has on us all. Jesus died on the cross so we could be forgiven and live life to to the full. We want children to understand what this means for them as well as understanding the importance of forgiving others and asking for forgiveness too.

Summer 1

Service

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of gifts. Use them well to serve one another.

1 Peter 4:10 (NLT)

At Walsgrave we want to make an impact in our local community. Whether this is through supporting the local foodbank or singing at care homes. We want to serve others with the gifts that God has given us.

Summer 2

Hope

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

As we look forward to the next academic year we want children to have hope for the future. For some children this may involve going to a new school and for the others a new class. This can be a difficult for some and we want them to know that there is always hope in every situation.
